Epidemiology is the study of the incidence, distribution and control of disease in a population. THD epidemiologists work to prevent the spread of diseases by identifying their causes and risk factors. Their efforts provide the foundation for developing public policy and regulations regarding disease prevention.

The “Don’t Bug Me” flu awareness and prevention campaign, a joint partnership between Hillcrest Medical Center and the Tulsa Health Department, is designed to teach healthy lifestyle habits to avoid getting or spreading the flu.

Resources for Childcare Settings

Schools and child care settings can play a vital role in preventing the spread of communicable diseases. This can be accomplished by providing health education to students, child care center attendees, and parents on topics such as hand hygiene, and appropriately excluding ill children from the school and child care setting.
